Penguin House Book Fair
|
While volunteering at the Penguin House Book Fair, my main purpose was working with children and running the daycare. This was my first real experience taking care of very young children, so it was a very interesting experience. Even though I was exhausted by the end of my time volunteering, I very much enjoyed being able to play with the kids. I also enjoyed encouraging the parents to play with their children instead of simply dropping them off with us and leaving.

Impact on Me
This was my first time volunteering at a child/student centered event. I enjoyed being surrounding by other education majors like myself and working with them. I know for fact I used multiple learning techniques when working with the kids that I had learned in my education class. Even though elementary school children and toddlers are not the age that I will eventually work with in a school setting, it was good experience to have to have to take of up to 16 kids at once. Boy, was it tiring!

Impact on Others
While working with the young children I was able to help the parents in two different ways. First, I was able to help the parents by giving them a break from watching the child when they dropped the child off into our care. Second, I was also able to help facilitate playtime between a parent and their child. By helping facilitate play I was able to show parents new ways of playing with their children; I helped strengthen the parent's bond with their child.
